The Foothill-De Anza Community College District is currently
accepting applications for the faculty position of Mathematics
Instructor.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE: Instruct
community college mathematics courses to a diverse student population
with diverse learning styles. Courses range from pre-algebra and
algebra to advanced statistics, calculus, linear algebra and
differential equations. Revise and develop curriculum as it relates
to the discipline, infusing multicultural perspectives and
contributions where appropriate. Standard duties expected of all
faculty include development and evaluation of curricula, maintaining
scheduled office hours, attendance at division meetings, pursuing
professional growth activities and performing other duties consistent
with the role of an instructor. Instructors also have the
opportunity to serve on District and college committees and
participate in campus extra-curricular activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse
academic, socio-economic, ethnic, cultural, disability, religious
background and sexual orientation of community college students,
faculty and staff.
2. Master's degree in mathematics or applied mathematics OR
Bachelor's degree in either of the above AND Master's degree in
statistics, physics, or mathematical education OR the equivalent.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Experience teaching lower division courses in mathematics or statistics.
2. Recent related coursework or professional development activities.
3. Experience working with a diverse student population.
4. Experience in applying mathematics in a
non-teaching environment.
5. Awareness of the contributions of diverse cultures to the history
of mathematics.
In addition, successful candidates will demonstrate the following
knowledge and abilities:
1. The willingness to teach the full range of courses offered.
2. The willingness to incorporate technology in the teaching curriculum.
3. Capacity to convey a sense of enthusiasm and excitement about mathematics.
4. The ability to design and teach courses that engage student in
their own learning, and motivates students to develop higher-order
thinking skills.

SALARY RANGE: $40,472 -$64,147 annually plus benefits; actual
placement is non-negotiable and is based on applicant's verified
education and experience.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time, Permanent,
10 months per year.
STARTING DATE 2001
