<<This being said, it should be recognized that at some four year colleges,
as atypical as it might seem, students arriving from high school
experiences that allowed rapid advancement in mathematics to the extent
that the students have taken 3 semesters of college level calculus plus

their first two years in attendence at a four year college. >>
To address your post, Martin:
These students have NOT already taken 3 semesters of college level calculus
plus linear algebra before being exposed to these topics. They are being
asked to absorb these topics WHILE they learn the regular calculus/linear
algebra sequence. Our only prerequisite for the honors courses is that
they've had one semester of calculus - even business calc will do. BTW, we
have no prereqs for any of the honors courses... i.e. they can jump straight
into our last course without have any of the other honors courses.
Also, remember that the Galois theory is NOT in an honors course. It is in a
course required for ALL comp-sci majors: Discrete Math.
BTW, I left out a couple extreme topics when I made my first post:
Lie Connectors and Lie Derivatives!!
I'm tempted to offer $1000 to anyone on this list who can jump right in and
teach these at the drop of a hat.
