I use the InFocus projection system and am very pleased with its peformance.
Yes, you can see the image in a fully lit room (I suppose that it is
obviously prettier when the lights are dimmed somewhat, but with normal
fluorescent lights, it works fine, especially with reasonable projection
screen sizes, i.e., a 16-ft screen for auditorium use needs dimmed stage
lights). It supports 640 x 480 x 256 colors, will take VCR signals as well
as VGA or Mac video signal. It also has an amplifier and speakers for your
audio signal (e.g., VCR or multimedia computer stuff).

Note that projectors are more expensive than panels, but the points already
made by others re the need for high-lumen output overhead projectors (when
using an LCD panel) are well made. You'll "pay the piper" sooner or later.

Also, projectors are generally not as portable as the LCD panels. They come
with a carrying case, but will count as a piece of luggage on an airline
trip, while the LCD panels can often slip into your suitcase or laptop bag.
For classroom use, that wouldn't be a problem.

Hope this info is helpful.
