A good question like this is worth it's "virtual weight" in gold; we
need them desperately.

Now, for my answer:
We'd teach them how to do it without the TI-92 when this meets our
instructional objective better.

This question will become more complex in the next 5 years, as
companies
try to capitalize on our interest in technology. TI will come out
with
the TI-84, TI-87, and TI-93, all with more features than the current
corresponding machine. Other companies will release more powerful
hand-held machines. WHICH of these machines frames the question
that Phil raises??

At some point, we will need to "tell" the companies that we have all the
computing power we need, and "don't bother coming out with a more
advanced model to please us". Otherwise, we will end up with basic
curricular questions every two years when each new machine comes out, or
when a big advance in www capabilities comes out -- and we will never
have a chance to get really good at any curriculum.

So far, we have not managed the change we face; we have been responding
to other forces. We will need to become the leaders of this change if
we hope to serve our students well.

Thanks for reading; I hope my thinking helps you a little.
