[MATHEDCC] part time faculty

At Harper College the Math Department has two faculty classifications - full
time or adjunct (part time). Full time faculty are paid according to a
negotiated contract on a salaried basis per year. Part time faculty are
compensated at a flat rate per credit hour taught based on number of years
experience and education.

A Departmental committee is attempting to look at ways of compensating some
adjuncts that do contribute more to the Department than just teaching a 3 or
4 hour course and then going home. We have several adjuncts that are here as
much as our full time faculty and we would like to somehow acknowledge (and
they would like to be acknowledged) for their extra effort. Our current
compensation schedule does not allow.

So, the question is, are there any community colleges out there where there
are more than just two levels of faculty? If so, any details would be
appreciated.

Thanks
