Jerry-

Elementary school teachers have degrees in Liberal Studies --- mostly
humanities courses. This is who is teaching our kids! We have TWO math
classes for them to get through. And I do my darnest to make sure that the
ones that *I* pass can do arithmetic. They are not allowed ANY calculator on
their first exam...... and many cannot do a problem like:

3(2/5) + 1 1/2. I always get them on this. They think the first is 3
AND 2/5. Who taught them their arithmetic? They also don't know this one:

5/0=?
0/5=? Even though I teach this concept in class.
