Lynn Steen and Susan Forman spent a good deal of time
over the past couple of years asking employers what
they wanted/expected from employees in the way of math
skills. Here is a list that Lynn shared during an
MAA conference - My experience with employers in
this area supports their conclusions...of course, different
occupations emphasize/de-emphasize different elements on the
list. I would underline one of these components for the
purposes of this group: spreadsheet

advanced arithmetic
approximation
data analysis
financial mathematics
formulas and variables
indirect measurement
mental estimation
ratio and proportion
reading tables
risk analysis
significant digits
spreadsheets
statistical process control
statistical quality control
three-dimensional geometry
tolerances
triangle trigonometry
unit conversion
