I go over the homework the first thing and I do not quit until all
questions have been answered. When a homework set is particularly
difficult (word problems!), I have been known to work or at least set up
every one of them. I think this time is the most important learning time
of all. They hear me explain but they don't often have questions until
they begin to try it for themselves. If I have ten minutes left for the
"new" stuff, so be it. (As often as I can, I let them begin the homework
in class so they can begin trying it for themselves in my presence. This
is also a good time for collaborative efforts.)
