I do not grade homework. However, I give a short (often just two =
questions) quiz almost every day at the end of class. Students have a =
chance to ask questions regarding Monday's homework in class on Turesday, =
and at the end of class Wednesday there is a quiz on that material. The =
quizzes are closed book and closed notes, but the students may work with a =
partner. The student must be in class to take the quiz. Usually, I can =
grade a set of quizzes in 15 minutes.
In my upper-level classes, I have students hand in a few representative =
problems from each assignment. These are usually "even numbered problems."=
They are usually due the class period after the students had a chance to =
ask questions about that assignment.
It works for me.
