NCEDR is the National Center for Environmental Decision-making Research. The mission of NCEDR is to improve environmental decision making at the subnational level. NCEDR conducts research and outreach programs intended to put better tools and information in the hands of public- and private-sector environmental decision makers at regional, state, tribal, and local levels. In doing so, it creates meeting places for researchers and practitioners with the goal of improving environmental decisions.

NCEDR was created in 1995 with a grant from the National Science Foundation and additional matching funds from Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the Tennessee Valley Authority, and The University of Tennessee. NCEDR is administered by the Joint Institute for Energy and Environment in Knoxville, Tennessee. NCEDR also receives support from other governmental agencies, corporations, non-profit organizations, and individuals.

NCEDR is administered by The University of Tennessee (UT), an Equal Opportunity Employer, and is recognized as a publicly supported organization. Individuals, corporations, companies, associations, and foundations are eligible to support the work of NCEDR through tax-deductible gifts.
