Tools can improve communication, aid creativity, promote broad-based involvement, and assist information-gathering and analysis. Tools can frame the context of the decision by identifying relevant information and issues, and they can ease interactions among participants in the decision process.
A comprehensive understanding of today's decision-aiding tools is essential to improving environmental decision-making. The decision-aiding tools explored in this overview are used to gather, digest, analyze, and interpret information. Other tools not discussed--especially tools to foster creativity and communication--remain as subjects for future NCEDR research.
