Clinton Air-Cooled Experimental Pile (Graphite Reactor)

Clinton Engineer Works, X-10 Plant
This natural-uranium-and-graphite pile went critical on the morning of November 4, 1943.
On the left is the control room; in the center is the pile face, or loading face.
The ends of 1,248 channels are visible in which uranium slugs are inserted.
