On May 15th, WUOT hosted a very special luncheon and station tour for some very special WUOT members! Members of the Cornerstone Society and Leadership Circle enjoyed a delicious lunch, provided by underwriter Middlebrook Gardens, at UT’s McClung Museum. The entire WUOT staff was on hand to meet and greet our guests and personally thank them for their generous support of WUOT Public Radio.
University of Tennessee-Knoxville Interim Chancellor Jan Simek and UTK Vice Chancellor Tom Milligan also attended the luncheon to say “thanks” to club members. They told attendees how proud they were of the university-community partnership which makes WUOT successful. Dr. Simek surprised everyone with a story about his mother’s visit to his family shortly after their move to Knoxville. He said that when she heard WUOT, she was “relieved” to know that her family hadn’t moved to a community devoid of culture!
Club members also heard from Program Director Dan Berry and News Director Matt Shafer Powell about upcoming programming and newsroom projects. While the brief speeches were entertaining and informative, the most exciting part of the event was the tour of WUOT’s renovated studios! Members loved the opportunity to “see” first-hand how WUOT works! And since their tour-guides were WUOT staff members, they not only had the chance to see the facility, but to ask as many questions as they could come up with!
Everyone who attended had a great time and say they’re looking forward to next year’s event. If you would like information about club-level giving at WUOT, please click here.
We’d love to welcome you to one of these clubs!
