Morning Concert host/producer Melony Maness began working at WUOT in 2007 as a student announcer, first covering the Saturday afternoon shift and then, after discovering she loved it so much, adding the Saturday evening shift as well! She was the last student announcer to join the WUOT staff and was trained by Daniel Berry.
Melony is originally a N.C. girl and completed her bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance and Music Therapy at Appalachian State University in beautiful Boone, N.C. In 2006, she decided to pursue her master’s degree in Collaborative Piano at UT and she completed that degree in 2008.
Soon after she graduated, she joined the WUOT staff as the weekend morning host. In this position, she produced and hosted the Early Morning Concert in addition to being the local host for Weekend Edition and various other shows such as Car Talk and Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me! In 2010, Melony was given the opportunity to get her creative juices flowing by producing and hosting the “Top 60 for 60,” a series created in celebration of WUOT’s 60th anniversary.
Melony loves music....all kinds (almost), but she has a particular affinity for the German Romantics, Chopin, and also for Bluegrass! Currently she is a staff accompanist at UT, where she accompanies music students and the Concert Choir, and is a coach/accompanist for the UT School of Music’s Opera Theatre.
In her spare time she loves to cook, hike, and explore all of the cultural attractions Knoxville has to offer! She loves spending time with her guitar-playing husband, Jonathan, and her attention-needy cat, Felix, who prefers to be petted with your feet.
