WUOT is my source for news programs, human interest stories, and opera casts that bring hope, truth, and beauty to my life. I came to Knoxville 16 years ago from Chicago, Ill., and left one of the greatest public broadcasting stations in history. I was around when PBS moved into the Chicago market. It was a great birth. Slowly but surely, WUOT is moving toward becoming a great public broadcasting station.

WUOT is a staple in my home, like a good bottle of wine, a tender piece of steak, and a stimulating piece of art. WUOT engages, inspires, and holds my attention from dawn to dusk, and beyond. When civic life appears to be crazy and out of sync with my beliefs, I turn to WUOT.

Sylvia Peters, Knoxville

WUOT is my source for “downloading” after a long day – I turn WUOT on when I get in the car, and enjoy whatever I hear, from jazz to opera. My family knows not to disturb my favorite hour, With Heart and Voice, 7-8 p.m. Sunday.

I can't imagine Knoxville without you. Thank you for the wonderful service you provide to our community.

Lois Symington, New Market

WUOT is my source for
(1) Classical music
(2) News
(3) Entertainment: A Prairie Home Companion, Wait, Wait…..

WUOT means reliable sources for 1, 2, and 3 above.

Melvyn L. Halbert, Oak Ridge

WUOT is my source for news, classical music, jazz, politics, balance, whimsy, general brain food.

One of my first memories is hearing the theme from Morning Edition: dum dum dum dum dum.... I was 3 years old and my mom was getting me ready for preschool. I loved it! I have been an active listener ever since.

Jessica K. Torrance (age 24), Norris

WUOT is my source for classical music, various news programs, Terry Gross, Garrison Keillor, Saturday opera.

I'd be lost without it.

J. Drury (Pat) Patteson, Ph.D., Th.D., Knoxville

WUOT is my source for:
(1) General news
(2) Special coverage (in-depth)
(3) Classical music
(4) Politics
(5) The lighter side: A Prairie Home Companion

Being able to get NPR reception was one of my requirements list when I moved down here to the Knoxville area last fall -- right along with hot and cold running water, and plenty of electrical outlets! And I am really pleased it's WUOT with all the classical music programming and news and All Things Considered and Terry Gross and on and on....

Rita Lund, Rutledge

WUOT is my source for news, classical music, and the unusual programs like Prairie Home Companion, Thistle & Shamrock, Mountain Jubilee, and the fun programs like Wait, Wait...Don't Tell Me! … and many others.

WUOT means a wide variety or programs to choose from, free from lengthy advertisements that detract from the programs. We moved here 40 years ago and we have been listening ever since we arrived!

Nancy and Jim Basford, Oak Ridge

WUOT is my source for news, entertainment.

I like the shows and the variety:
(1) Hearts of Space (please don't cancel)
(2) Symphony
(3) Car Talk
(4) All Things Considered
(5) Morning Edition

Patty Paul, Knoxville

WUOT is my source for national news, classical music, jazz.

I first became a fan of WUOT when I would listen to classical music and opera while studying in undergrad at UTK. Over the years WUOT has been a way for me to hear and learn about new types of music, cultural events, and performance art. I have also increasingly appreciated the in-depth and unbiased NPR news programs and all the specialty shows such as Car Talk, A Prairie Home Companion, Fresh Air, etc. For 40 plus years now WUOT has been just like hearing from a good friend and important part of my daily routine that I appreciate more and more....

Mike Haynes, Farragut

WUOT is my source for compelling “driveway moments,” which still leave me glued to the car radio even after listening to public radio for 25+ years!

As WUOT manager, I'm never really very far from a radio! Whether I'm at work or at home, I'm never more than a few steps away from a radio. Even so, I STILL find that often-times there are NPR or WUOT news features that I simply can't bear to miss a single word of! I've found myself sitting in my car in the UT parking lot so I could hear the end of a StoryCorps or an Other Side of the Street feature. Even though I'd miss less than 30 seconds of a story while running into the building, I still find myself waiting in the car for the last of a piece that has me totally captivated. Yes, I KNOW I could always go online to hear those last few sentences! But it wouldn't be the same! Those driveway moments are what make WUOT and public radio so special to me.

Regina Dean, Knoxville

WUOT is my source for news, commentary, stories, and music outside the box.

WUOT is a constant in my life. I'm a multi-tasker, so the radio is often on, and WUOT is almost the only station I listen to. I appreciate the fact that I can do this without having to endure advertisements. I listen in the morning when getting ready for work, and the news gives me something to think and talk about during the day. I listen when getting supper ready too. The weekends are for fun. I and my husband and my two teens often listen to This American Life, and that really gets us thinking outside the box. Same with Sound and Spirit on the way home from church on Sunday. My favorite, though, is the Writer's Almanac. I find myself arranging plans so I can be in the car at 11:55. If I manage to hear Garrison Keillor reading me a poem, my day is made.

Liz McGeachy, Norris

WUOT is my source for A Prairie Home Companion, daily classical music, news, and weather updates.

WUOT is my friend during the day. I work at home and have little personal interaction with people. I hear the music, interact with the radio (complain about news and commentary) and feel connected to the world and my community by listening.

Morgen Marshall, Knoxville

WUOT is my source for connecting.

Over the years, there have been a number of NPR and WUOT news stories that have touched me. Sometimes they make me laugh, make me angry, make me cry, or just makes me think. I’ve learned things about the world, my community, and myself. And while the knowledge I’ve gained is something I can keep just to myself, I’ve discovered it’s even more rewarding to share it. Whether I find common ground or an opposing view, each time the connection gives me insight into another person’s life, which helps me understand the world a little better. Public radio helps me keep an open mind and an open heart, and I can’t imagine my life without it.

Cindy Hassil, Knoxville

WUOT is my source for great programs, from All Things Considered to Car Talk…simply quality at all interest levels for a broad audience base.

Mike Arms, Knoxville

WUOT is my source for Writer's Almanac, Sound and Spirit, From the Top

WUOT means missing interesting news and information during Morning Edition because you're broadcasting local non-news stories that should be put on during community talk shows. Sorry, but homeless people, Knoxville water rates, and ginseng plants don't quality as “news.”

Debbie McKittrick, Wartburg

WUOT is my source for information and news, particularly during the upcoming elections. It is also my source for peace and tranquility when I'm working under stressful deadlines and can listen to beautiful classical music. In essence, WUOT is nourishment for my soul.

WUOT means more than just a number on a dial. I rely on WUOT to keep me in touch with the whole world and to open my eyes to the cultural differences between my life and the lives of everyone else on this diverse planet. WUOT is my window to the world.

Jenny Hines, Lenoir City

WUOT is my source for up-to-date international news, local events, weekend satirical entertainment, heart-warming stories, and dependable coverage.

As a professional sign language interpreter it is my obligation to be prepared to interpret in a wide variety of situations and to remain in tune with the precise context of the speaker. WUOT is one avenue that enables me to remain up-to-date in a menagerie of subjects and terminology that at any given moment may present themselves during my work day. In my job, it is vital that I have an ear to the ground in order to ensure effective communication and proper cultural mediation. This is what WUOT means to me.

Jeffrey Palmer, Knoxville

WUOT is my source for echoes from the golden age!

I live in New York City now, but I listened to WUOT's classical programming since I was in high school 10 years ago. I was very happy when a couple years ago that I realized I could get WUOT online! It reminds me of home and East Tennessee!

Stella Ragsdale, Brooklyn, N.Y.

WUOT is my source for sanity. Thankfully, I have been a listener for many years, but I always think of when I was in my twenties and worked at ALCOA and lived in Knoxville. Every day the decision came down to driving Alcoa Highway and listening to WUOT -- to keep me sane -- or driving the backroads and listening to rock and roll. As long as I could listen to WUOT I knew I could keep my sanity on Alcoa Highway. This is still true today in many areas of my life.

WUOT, and by association NPR, means joy in every day -- be it classical music or “Fresh Air” or “All Things Considered” or “This American Life,” or whatever is on (except Opera, sorry). WUOT means a connection with thinking individuals who intelligently share the information they have painstakingly gathered. Quite simply, it means the world to me and keeps me sane.

Brenda Cunningham, Seymour

WUOT is my source for news, music, laughter, and thoughtful perspectives.

WUOT is on my car radio nearly all of the time. And I spend a lot of time in my car!! I enjoy the news programs and “Fresh Air” as they help to broaden my perspectives. I love all of Saturday morning for news, laughs, and to test my listening skills on “Wait, Wait...” (I get a high percentage of the questions correct by being an NPR listener). I usually work on Sunday afternoons and crank up “Weekend Radio” and “Prairie Home Companion’ to keep me company. I have also been able to volunteer for fund drives for many years and more recently, in the office. I love meeting new people and making new friends. I am honored to be able to help out on so many levels. WUOT is a large part of my life and I thank the staff for keeping this station to a high quality of programming and professionalism.

Jan Bailey, Knoxville

WUOT is my source for entertainment, relaxation, and partying. Me and my husband party to WUOT all the time. We will be just walking around the house and we'll turn on the radio and just start dancing.

My husband and I have been married 50 years and are in love. We have been listening to music on 91.9 since it first came on. It has history and memories to go along with it for my husband and I. I love WUOT 91.9 radio station.

Shaniqua Adams, Kingston

WUOT is my source for introducing my young son to new and different genres of music during dinnertime....

WUOT means opening my mind to what is happening around the world, on the music front, in my community. In short, it means being connected more largely to humanity.

Mary Lucal, Knoxville

WUOT is my source for so many things…

WUOT is my companion throughout the day. I only wish that some of the symphonic music was softer so I could leave it on all day in my lobby. “Weekend Radio” is a gem! Please leave it on. “Wait, Wait…” is a must listen to. “Prairie” is wonderful.

Dave Seale, Knoxville
